This is a restaurant on Sunset and Selma, on the property of the Chateau Marmont. Our client owns a fairly famous restaurant in New York and was asked by André Balazs (owner of the Chateau) to open a restaurant here in LA.
The project worked in many ways as design-build, and all through the process our small firm was fortunate to collaborate with interior designers from Japan, landscape architects from Belgium and lighting designers from the formidible L'Observatoire International in New York.
The essence of this project was to create something serene on the cusp of a road as busy as Sunset Blvd. It was necessary to merge the nature of high Japanese cuisine with that of the existing “Chateau” building; thus the title translates to “cottage set apart”. Our role was to manage, synthesize, and influence the output of the various consulting agencies to achieve this feeling. All drawings are my own.
