Hi, I’m Yuting Wang, I’m currently a third year architecture graduate student at UCLA and I have a bachelor degree in Architecture.
I first got interested in architecture from my childhood exposure to art. I started learning the violin at the age of five. Under the influence of melody, I gradually became interested in all things related to art. When I was in junior high school, I would draw some architectural sketches in my spare time to relax my mind, and since then, I have become more and more interested in architecture.
After I realized I was interested in architecture, I started reading a lot of architecture books. My first architecture book that had a huge impetus for me to study architecture was World Architects in their Twenties, which told about the school and work experiences of six famous architects in their youth. I started building physical models with my imagination, even though most of their structural systems were wrong at the time. I started formal architecture studies in college at the age of 18 and in the last couple of years I’ve got four internships at different architecture firms in China. When I worked as an intern, I’ve done a significant amount of plan drawings, renderings and modelings. My efficient workflow saved my co-workers about 2 hours each at least per day. My company were delighted and my co-workers too, because they were able to spend their time on more creative things. Last summer, I interned at XTEN Architecture and because my efficient workflow and the ability to communicate with co workers, they asked me to continue to work with them for the fall quarter. It was a valuable experience because it gave me a deep understanding of the architectural design industry, like not school work anymore but you have to actually communicate and work with co workers, clients and it allowed me to show my ability to work with different groups of people of different cultural background.
I’m so grateful for the whole architecture study journey
But the same time I also know for a fact that I want to work for and be proficient in architecture design
So that’s what essentially brings me here today, after almost 8 amazing years of architecture study, I want to start my career from being an entry level designer and get involved in different scales of practical projects and I want to combine my academic background with my interest and passions in architecture. i think its very important to keep our planet and its inhabitants in balance by integrating a sense of environmental stewardship into every project we take on.
