Miller Professor and Chair of Architecture Winka Dubbeldam was recently interviewed by Surface. From a meditation studio in Manhattan to a sports, retail, and recreation complex in Hangzhou, China, she has continually taken on new challenges in her practice, Archi-Tectonics. “Character and identity are not talked about enough in buildings,” says Dubbeldam. She also reflects upon her early career and offers insight to young architects.

Dubbeldam has been traveling globally this fall to serve on juries, give lectures, and visit PennDesign travel studios. In November, Dubbeldam will be traveling to Songyang, China, where she was invited to join the ANCB The Aedes Metropolitan Laboratory Conference. She is also a juror on the Annual Award UIA-HYP Cup 2017 alongside Deans from Tsinghua, Beijing and Tongji, Shanghai Universities, among others.

Earlier this fall, she gave a lecture on on “New Solids” at Sci-Arc in the W.M. Keck Lecture Hall, which can be viewed online.

Dubbeldam was also selected as the Harris Armstrong Fund Lecturer at the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.

In October, she accompanied Assistant Professor Robert Stuart-Smith's studio visit with leading cement producer CEMEX in Biel, Switzerland.
