I, Vaidehi Raipat, am an architect and urban design researcher with 8.4 years of professional experience. After Graduating with Bachelors in 2012, I worked with one of the larger architectural firms in Bangalore "Thomas Associates" for about a year. As a Junior architect, my responsibility here started with preparing toilet, kitchen and staircase details for various apartment complex projects. After working on detailing for a few months, I progressed to minor design opportunities like canopy designs, clubhouse design, cafe designs etc. Finally, I worked as a lead designer for a medium-sized apartment project towards the end of my tenure. I moved on from this firm in 2013 to pursue my Master's degree in Architecture. My Master's course was a 3-year course and had a research-based curriculum. I learned allied subjects such as sustainable architecture, architecture philosophy, humane inclusive design and research methodology. My primary research project was urban design-oriented research entitled "Sustainability of the Built environment of Ranchi". It aimed to analyse the environmental, social, cultural and economic condition of the existing built environment of Ranchi and suggest strategies to make its built environment sustainable. I started freelancing as an Architectural designer alongside my Masters. I completed two villa projects from conception to construction, one interior design project and one renovation project. I have also taken up a Research Fellow role for six months for The foundation of Indian cities, an urban design consultant for the Infrastructure Development Corporation of Karnataka and a research consultant for the Smart city India foundation. My experience in all these research organisations was varied and exciting. I worked on various realms such as tourism development projects, projects for utilising unused urban spaces and writing research articles about urban sustainability, socio-spatial architecture and temporal urbanism. After graduating with my masters, I joined as an assistant professor for two semesters in Dayanand Sagar College of Architecture Bangalore, where I taught urban design, campus planning and housing architecture. I was simultaneously working on small residential design projects, but there came a time when it became difficult to balance my freelancing projects with university work, and hence I resigned to start a small Firm of my own called "Innovature Research and Design Studio".
