Located amid the verdant hills of Powai, in the central suburbs of Mumbai, ‘Casa Rosé’ is a 2-BHK apartment straight out of a Wes Anderson movie.
The house is best described as an Art Gallerié masquerading as an 2BHK apartment. The space is a poetic composition of colours and moods, set against the earthy tones of creamy Ispegu finish walls, a lime plaster imported from Italy. We were inspired by the rustic naturescapes of Tuscany, to which we added our own eclectic touch. Every element in Casa Rosé is a piece of art that starts conversations. The space is a realm of subdued tones and geometrical elements layered with soft ethnic floral furnishings.
The design process had just begun when the pandemic struck. The focus then shifted into entwining every aspect of the client’s daily routine with the design and bringing the outdoors inside, creating an urban oasis perfect for the new work-from-home lifestyle.
You're greeted by a palette of pastel rust, sea-foam blue and white, as you enter through the door inspired by the quaint streets of Tuscany. A monochrome entry foyer features an organic shaped mirror and a contrasting hand carved console with geometric shapes.
Celebrating the notes of Rosé- mint, berries and hibiscus, the focal point of the living room is a massive deconstructed artwork framed in cove-lit blackened metal on the main wall. A statement lounge chair inspired by shades of light bodied wine is juxtaposed against it. The off-white sectional sits on the floral Spruce and Peachia rugs from The House of Designery. The dining is a chaste white space, punctuated by an in situ-ombre terrazzo dining table. The statement chandelier with bronze accents stands out against the backdrop of lime plastered walls. The Mondrian Bookcase, inspired by the artist Piet Mondrian, is splashed in muted shades, rattan and dramatic lighting from niches behind the unit.
The bedrooms have been designed to be spaces that engulf the user in warmth. The Master Bedroom draws colour from tones of terracotta. The bed back, like the Mondrian Bookcase, is inspired by the De Stijl master, and hand finished in 'Velature’- a translucent form of italian glaze used first in the fifteenth century paintings, in shades of terracotta. Royally perched on the wall, the organic mirror simulates the Terme di Saturnia, the famous Tuscan hot springs, showing a transition in the shades as in nature.
The secondary bedroom is layered with rich fabrics, tribal prints and textures of book matched white oak wood resulting in a stunning mish-mash that beautifully pulls together all elements of the room while maintaining a level of individualism between the design elements. The bed back is upholstered in an ethnic embroidered olive toned tapestry and juxtaposed with golden yellow velvet bands. The custom night stands are hand painted with a bold tribal pattern by a local artist, Decor Drama.
The three balconies in the house were metamorphosed to escape nooks, lush with plants and colourful handcrafted furniture from Sirohi, a brand that empowers rural women by recycling waste scraps into beautiful furniture .
The house has been woven together with little delights from all over the country, creating a space that celebrates contemporary Indian and international art. Together with meticulous user-centred design and a bubblegum aesthetic, the house becomes a calm yet intoxicating space to live in, just like a glass of Rosé.
