NINEMOON - Low density Urban Housing concept for Indian Cities

Low density Urban Housing concept for Indian Cities

NINEMOONS

A system of delivering affordable homes for urbanizing India

To meet the challenge of RAISE one must look beyond a specific type of house design.

One must establish A WAY OF BUILDING that serves a much broader need of many kinds of middle class homes.

NINEMOONS

integrates, into a three dimensional spatial and structural module

NINE KEY CONCEPTS that ensure social, economic and environmental sustainability.

SOCIAL RESPONSE

The size and dimensions of the square grid module is determined by the

space use patterns of the emerging lifestyles of the Indian urban middle class.

CHOICE – FLEXIBILITY ADAPTABILITY

Flat slab construction and the dimensional coordinates of sub-components allow flexibility and adaptability to meet varying family needs.

The system can be built to ground + 3 storeys and basement and it can be extended horizontally to increase accommodation size.

HOME MAKING PERSONALISED

NINEMOONS service would be an IT interface with a design facilitator to help each home owner get best value for money.

”Purchase the floor space  you can afford and order the home  you need.”

ENJOY DESIGNER CRAFT

The dimensional system is  “open-ended freeware” accommodating subcomponents from an ever expanding building subcomponents range

” Express yourself in your aesthetic choice of green well crafted products.”

ECONOMIC RESPONSE

The simplicity of construction and the material economy of the structural and spatial module is its hallmark.

ECONOMY    SPEED     RELIABILITY

Steel consumption is 18 kg per sqm of built area. Concrete volume minimized by replacing the structurally neutral concrete with waste material balls;

Minimum skill, little equipment - only horizontal formwork for flat slabs.

Earthquake resistant structure for four storey construction.

Complete enclosure with services delivered in 8 weeks

COMMUNITY PLUS

The module’s  applicability for plotted housing high-density-low-rise i group housing makes homes affordable for all middle income families with monthly incomes  from Rs.30,000 to Rs.80,000.

OPEN SOURCE - FUTURE PROOF

System permits flexibility into the future - optimizing cost, durability and functionality. Select or upgrade with dimensionally coordinated expanding choice of components

  • external enclosure
  •   internal dividers
  • equipment
  •  accessories

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE

NINEMOONS is an environmentally responsible way of living for                                                                   Enjoyment of good health, comfort and convenience – in individual homes and as a community.

HEALTH AND COMFORT

Top priority is given to hygiene in kitchens and bathrooms, to treatment of drinking water and disposal/recycling of organic and inorganic waste.

Passive design ensures indoor comfort.

 LOW CARBON LIVING

The structural system enables flexibility and adaptability with 20% less embodied energy compared with Building-as-Usual.  On site resources of topsoil and excavated earth are utilized in building construction. Recycled and locally available low processing energy materials are developed as designer sub -components.

Solar PV and water heating are integrated into building design.

Passive techniques of day lighting, natural ventilation, shading, and use of thermal mass and insulation minimize the dependence on air conditioning.

SELF SUFFICIENT INFRASTRUCTURE

Water storage, treatment, waste treatment and disposal are decentralized to homes or neighbourhood clusters.

On site PV will generate electricity for basic lighting and pumping.
