Stevens & Wilkinson, a full-service commercial architecture, engineering and interior design firm based in Atlanta and Columbia, S.C., announced Desi Hernandez, P.E., LEED AP, has joined its staff as director of mechanical engineering. Hernandez’s responsibilities will include mechanical design and construction supervision for various projects.
With more than 29 years of mechanical engineering experience, Hernandez has led and participated in a wide range of projects, spanning research and construction management at a central research laboratory for the biological threat-reduction agency in Baku, Azerbaijan, to a revitalization of mechanical systems at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. Hernandez has also contributed to contract projects including Columbus Air Force Base, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Andrews Air Force Base, the Tuskegee Airmen National Museum, Dobbins Air Force Base, and MacDill Air Force Base.
Hernandez possesses extensive experience in the research of existing drawing files, engineering studies, construction document preparation, and design calculations. He is proficient in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection for new construction and rehabilitation projects. His background involves the integration of energy solutions across a diverse range of projects, ensuring sustainably designed buildings and structures that meet LEED requirements.
Hernandez received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Southern Polytechnic State University in 1987. He has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) designation and is an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Hernandez is a registered professional engineer in Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina.
