THE SITE
Located in the heart of Adams Morgan in Washington, DC. Kalorama Park is one of the greatest parks in town because of its privileged location. The park
is located in a quiet residential area but at the same time it is very centralized, meaning that you have restaurants, supermarkets, retail stores, and public
transportation just a couple of blocks away from it.
THE BUILDING
Kalorama Park needs a building that will add to the site. I am proposing a minimal impact design, whereas the green areas of the park should be preserved as much as possible and whatever impact that should have on the site it will be returned with the design of the building itself, making use of a green roof as well as biophilic design.
MATERIALITY
The use of sustainable materials is essential for this particular project. Being aware of greenhouse gas emissions and the impact it has on our planet, I proposed the following materials: Ultra-High-Performance Concrete Panels, Reclaimed Wood, and Glass.
PERFORMANCE
To accomplish the goal of having a building as sustainable as possible, I proposed the following performances: Shading devices, daylighting from multiple sides, form for heating and cooling, water catchment and storage, green roof and walls, and solar panels.
