Chicago, IL - The Williams Park Field House opened to the public on Saturday October 5. The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by Alderman Pat Dowell and representatives of the Chicago Park District, the Chicago Housing Authority, the Public Building Commission as well as multiple members of the community. The striking design was praised by dignitaries and neighbors alike who referred to the building as “visionary” and “transformational” for the community. 

This new Chicago Park District facility brings a jolt of optimism to Dearborn Homes, a community with over 600 children that need a safe and engaging place to play. The design includes a gymnasium and two multipurpose spaces that can accommodate the gamut of programs offered by the Chicago Park District. The Building’s skin has been designed using iridescent stainless steel panels in a dragon scale pattern. The material creates a chameleon-like effect, imparting multiple chromatic and reflective expressions which fluctuate throughout the day and across the seasons.
The Building’s interior combines durable materials such as polished concrete floors and composite acrylic polymers with exposed large span glulam beams to create an environment that is both resilient and welcoming.
