Jazz Village
Delving deep into the deep history of Newark, NJ, this project is an artist's housing and cultural hub meant to invigorate and provide a vital return to cultural roots to the neglected neighborhood surrounding Lincoln Park in Newark. The choice to maintain and brand this area as a artist's hub, hence the name "Jazz Village", comes from the site's direct adjacency to Newark Symphony Hall as well as the rich history of jazz and the arts surrounding Newark and it's people.
The project was used to develop ideas for the LPCCD (our client) to actually develop a project in the coming future for the site. My Team's proposal was able to succeed in many attributes and wants of not only our client, but the critiques of nearby urban planners, architects, real estate investors and realtors.
The project culminates itself into a high rise building to symbolize a gateway into the city of Newark, as well as attention call to the area, of which is untouched by the new progressive and repairing projects within Newark. Following the Newark riots of 1967 the resulting poverty and social isolation that plagued Newark for so long, is still prevalent within the area surrounding our site.
