RUOYUN XU

About

Ruoyun Xu is dedicated to designing interactive and reflective experience in urban, architectural and human scales with a wide range of knowledge. His trans-disciplinary and multi-scalar approaches enable him to intentionally avoid claiming a defined title such as “architect” or “urban-designer”, since he believes his practice can’t be categorized into any field separated and isolated from others by clear boundaries. His practice is both grounded and visionary by stretching his lenses throughout the spectrum of time to examine the past, presence and future, aiming at not only adapting to the existing conditions based on real experience but also anticipating the prospective lifestyles and behavioral patterns by challenging the established conventions. He believes lifestyle is not only one’s way of living, but also one’s perception of the life, the world and the self, while behavioral patterns are the physical representations of this perception, and he takes design as a medium to convey the perception and representation. He values the appropriate balance in between function and form and the active integration of human demand and aesthetic pursuit, seeking a mutually influencing model instead of a unilaterally dominating one. He conceives design as the ultimate methodology to bridge in between human and nature.
