Studio Ma, Phoenix, AZ, US, Project Manager / Designer
Rocky Hanish, Associate AIA integrates his design expertise with an interest in generating narratives that invest architecture with greater meaning. His background in both design/build construction and as a design school faculty member afford him broad perspectives into realizing our design intent. Rocky’s inquisitiveness has led him to research and test new software, construction types, and building scales. These sharpen his ability to communicate what is achievable and how we will maximize the quality of experience within spaces.
Born in Minneapolis, Rocky grew up in Phoenix. He became fascinated in middle school with architecture and model-making. A year in Buenos Aires expanded his cultural influences. During graduate school, Rocky expanded his design/build work into different formats — furniture design, buildings, and multimedia art projects — because the process produced richer work. He finds that communicating how to reduce energy and water consumption to the people who will use our buildings is the most successful way to realize successful, sustainably designed architecture.
Rocky brings to Studio Ma a depth of experience with multifamily, academic, and residential projects in Arizona, California, and New York. At Studio Ma, Rocky leads project management and guides design for our higher education, developer, and cultural projects.
