Qixin Zhang is a New York-based interior and graphic designer. She graduated with an MFA in interior design from Pratt Institute after she studied graphic design at New York City College as an undergraduate. Her design focuses on connecting space and vision with people.
Qixin was born in China and moved to New York in 2006 when she was in high school. She is a caring, easy-going, and respectful person. She loves to work in a place where she can learn from colleagues and grow with them.
At The City College of New York, Qixin was exposed to the Electronic Design and Multimedia (EDM) Program. She found herself fascinated with the world of graphic design, typography, and photography, and she switched her major from Fine Art to Digital Design. When she graduated she wanted to continue her design studies and shift from 2D to 3D design, so she entered Pratt Institute to study interior design.
As a graphic designer, Qixin loves bold, simplistic, and clean designs. Danshari (断捨離) is her favorite book, and its focus is a minimalist lifestyle concept, which fits her lifestyle goals and design eye. Qixin tries to live by this mantra: when we are able to let go of things that we don’t need, then we understand what we truly need, and this process helps us truly understand ourselves.
Qixin believes design to be borderless, heavily influences our lives, and is an endless source for education and growth. She also feels strongly that it takes a lot of effort to make a design look effortless.
