Peter was a part of the Design Team at Downtown Designworks Architecture (DDA) for this project, and worked especially on the Sculptural Stair and the Detailing for the project.
Three awkwardly combined apartments are transformed into an elegant and sophisticated Chelsea Triplex family home.
The owners came to DDA with the intention of upgrading the mechanical system of their newly acquired apartment but quickly decided to have us thoroughly update the apartment using an urban, yet organic vocabulary. Through the application of tightly curated details and a palette of colors and finishes that infuse the clients’ vibrant and sophisticated style, the apartment was transformed into a welcoming and modern loft befitting the chic neighborhood.
DDA created a master suite from a series of unrelated spaces, updated the entry foyer incorporating a new mud room, office and AV/storage closet and unified the lower level into a family friendly haven.
A three story tall ribbon of blackened steel forms the spine of a sculptural floating stair that anchors and unifies the apartment. DDA’s guidance through the process, including everything from finish selection to mechanical equipment location, resulted in a cohesive and clean design.
