Through the initiative and support of Director Pat Scanlon, the GEORGE H. SCANLON FOUNDATION has generously funded an annual George H. Scanlon Foundation Lecture since 1998.
The George H. Scanlon Foundation Lecture REDUX.4 celebrates this enduring and successful 18-year lecture series by featuring its 2004 lecturer, IÑAKI ÁBALOS, who will present the work of Abalos+Sentkiewicz AS+.
IÑAKI ÁBALOS is Founder and Director of Ábalos+Sentkiewicz arquitectos. He currently is Chaired Professor at ETSAM – Spain and Chair of the Department of Architecture at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He previously was Founder and Director of Abalos & Herreros (1984-2006) and has taught in other prestigious university centres such as the Architectural Association, Columbia, Cornell, and Princeton, combining academic, professional, and research activity.
Ábalos+Sentkiewicz AS+ is an international architecture office based in Madrid (Spain),Cambridge (US) and Shanghai (China – in association with Professor Linxue Li), and is directed by Iñaki Ábalos and Renata Sentkiewicz. The projects and built work of Ábalos+Sentkiewicz are internationally recognized and have been featured in fifteen individual exhibitions as well as many collective exhibitions in prestigious centers such as the AA-London, Pavillon de l’arsenale-Paris, MoMA- NYC, and the Venice Biennale of Architecture. Abalos+Sentkiewicz arquitectos has received thirty-eight awards in architecture competitions, forty-five awards for research and design activities, and eighteen awards for built-work, to date. Critic William Curtis has chosen one work of the Firm, the Pavilion in the Retiro Park, as one of the three best works built in Spain during the last thirty years.
