The space of the BLS library, the former cafeteria is a well-located space, with good ceiling height and volume and is greatly helped by the lightwells that were built into the original building, the front portion so which is nearly 100 years old. The main space is under the auditorium which is supported by deep beams that are boxed in above the reading room. The enclosures running at right angles to these beams are ducts for air, which includes air conditioning provided by the Mechanical system in the Cafeteria addition.
Having been in its present form since 2000 the library is due for some updates that reflect changes in the nature and use of libraries, which are:
Reduced space for stacks
Increased space for students
Space for group work, thus sound isolation
Multipurpose use of meeting spaces
Changes in security control for books
