Democratizing artwork through the integration of the public into the museum building. The artwork that the Broads collect has been lent to other museums worldwide. The Broad Museum would not only display the artwork but would also act as the foundation’s headquarters. The Broad does not have to be a house for art, instead the idea of integrating the public into a private museum is incorporated. From within, the public can get a glimpse of the museum’s archives and storage as they circulate throughout. The shading system connects the exterior and interior. It acts as a mesh, from within the spaces a visitor can still view the surrounding area, yet from the exterior only at certain angles could the public view into the spaces. Thus, the idea of a museum dedicated to a private collection is shifted to democratizing the artwork.
