Kansas City's vibrant Power & Light District gained a dazzling addition with the opening of THREE LIGHT luxury apartments! The 26-story high-rise glass tower with masonry elements at its base is elevating the residential experience in Missouri.
Working with developer The Cordish Companies, our team of engineers who were also behind the award-winning TWO LIGHT project, provided full service structural design services for its neighboring sibling building THREE LIGHT. The new mixed-use development similarly boasts a concrete post-tensioned flat plate structure with concrete shear walls.
THREE LIGHT's "coupled core" shear wall system provides superior lateral stability in the east/west direction which allowed us to achieve a taller structure while maintaining a consistent shear wall layout. The "coupled core" links elevator cores with concrete link beam elements, creating a stiffer, more stable system.
Playing up its modern aesthetic, the iconic "W" incorporated into the building's facade is a fully exposed concrete column that appears to cradle a series of residential units. Completed in a single pour to avoid cold joints, the "W" also provides support for both lateral and gravity loads.
THREE LIGHT offers 26 stories of mixed-use lux living with 288 units, including 19 floors of studio, one bedroom, two bedroom and penthouse apartments, a seven-story garage with 472 parking spaces, and 7,600 sq. ft. of retail space on the first floor.
