Marijke Bruinsma is a Dutch urbanist (planner and designer) graduated at the Academy of Architecture Amsterdam (MA Master of Urbanism) and a landscape designer graduated at Larenstein, University of Applied Sciences (BSc Bachelor of Landscape Design) with over 11 years of work experience.
With her graduation project 'The Hidden City' at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture, she was nominated for the Dutch Archiprix 2010 (National prize for most talented graduates in Architecture) and she has received the fourth prize StedenbouwNU 2012 (National prize for the best new talent in Urban Design and Landscape Architecture).
Marijke has also won an international Acknowledgment Award for sustainable construction (Holcim Awards Europe 2011) for her (inter-)nationally well published project 'Eathouse'.
After working at a few different Dutch offices for many years of which the last years at the international office for landscape architecture Karres en Brands, she started her own office for urbanism (De Stuurlui stedenbouw) in 2010, together with Frank de Volder.
Her skills and qualities lie in between the city and its surrounding landscape. She holds great value in the perception of space as part of the designing process and the final result. As a designer Marijke is creative, sensitive, analytical, keen on quality and practical. She has great graphic skills, is a good organiser and a teamplayer. Her designs are mostly simple, effective and without unneccessary frills. Marijke has extensive experience as a interdisciplinary designer / project leader with various projects in urban planning, landscape and public space. She has worked at various levels in both new construction and restructuring projects as well as designing streets, squares, parks and gardens. Over the years she has gained a lot of knowledge and experience in designing, detailing, materializing and implementing projects.
