Embracing Our Differences, 1st Place

The centerpiece of Embracing Our Differences is an outdoor juried international art exhibit featuring 45 billboard-size images created by local, national, and international artists, writers, and students reflecting their interpretations of the theme "enriching lives through diversity."

Embracing Our Differences believes that diversity is one of the world’s greatest assets. To realize the promise of diversity, we must ensure that everyone is respected, included, and valued for their individuality. Our goal is to create a community where diversity and inclusion are valued while teaching the importance of being an “up-stander,” not a “by-stander.”

Author's statement:
During my childhood in Europe, I became appreciative of the rich and historical architecture around me. I knew then my love for architecture and art was authentic, and I committed to immerse myself in art and design due to their captivating forces of creativity, abstractness, and structure. I believe that a successful formula practices what you love so after completing my Masters in Architecture, I have decided to continue to pursue a specialized area of architecture — public spaces.

Simple changes in the shape and function of one part can affect a whole structure. These situations tend to create more tension in an environment whatever that environment is. Such diversity can be under great pressure, but that tension keeps our eyes focused so we can see the picture, which is more enriched.
