Pinetree is a waterfront single family residence in Miami Beach, Florida designed to combat sea level rise as a response to climate change. The 7,800 SF+ house is a focused response to an urgent issue, which Miami Beach has addressed by raising its streets by two feet.
Working through the CMB's 'Understory Ordinance' (modeled on Stiltsville and Herzog and De Meuron's Perez Art Museum), the two story house is built up on a planted raised plinth and discretized in two volumes ~ the lower one on the street setback, the higher one on the water side to form a courtyard party, a distinct back yard and a below ground lush entrance.
