The new interactive experience called "The Beam" at Rockefeller Center is open to the public. The Beam recreates the famous 1932 photo “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper,” depicting 11 ironworkers sitting on a steel beam eating lunch high above Manhattan while 30 Rockefeller Plaza was under construction. Visitors sit strapped onto a steel beam replica with a seatbelt on the 69th floor, lifted 12 ft. above the Observation Deck platform and rotated 180-degrees offering spectacular views of the city. Architecture affiliate, MDA served as Architect of Record on this thrilling project.
