About

Due to graduate from my Masters in Architecture at the University of Manchester this year (June '17), I would describe myself as a confident and well rounded individual. I claim these attributes due to my diverse educational experience thus far and claim to have a wide variation of interests and skills.

My undergraduate experience at the University of Bath, provided me with a solid practical and technical backbone, as well as setting a high bar for my educational performance to follow.

My experience in the university of Manchester was starkly different but nurtured the other sides of architectural education that I formerly had not experienced. In  Manchester I developed my interest in installation and art with architecture through my Atelier 'Urban Spatial Experimentation'. In the studio group we created our own briefs and were encouraged to use diversity as a positive medium to produce architectural work. This came to me in the form of thesis and research driven work that provided installation/sculptural outputs as well as fully resolved architectural proposals.

My main interests are concept design and curation, my strengths lying in concept development and maintenance in a design project. I feel slightly like I have fabricated this title, but if I were to describe my strength in a few choice words- this would be them. I would describe this as, creating a really interesting a robust concept for a design project, and then developing it into the brief and during execution of the project, making the design ring true to the fundamental concept. I feel much more at home, being creative than learning about regulations and business plans, as much as I hate to admit.

Finally to describe myself in a more quantifiable way, I am  a skilled digital illustrator I am very interested in composition, taking great pride in the projects no matter the medium or type.

Employment

Hamilton Architects, Northern Ireland, Architectural Assistant

Architectural Assistant

In this work placement I performed a wide variety of roles and tasks. I worked with architects drawings plans, surveying historical buildings, putting together building reports, putting together planning documents, creating promotions visuals.

During my time at this practice I was given quite a reasonable amount of responsibility at such an early stage of a professional and educational career.

AT USE each student is encouraged to form an individual concept based on a thorough site analysis. The projects follow a (personal) narrative that is born out of the site’s history and its inherent potential and which then transforms into an urban/spatial strategy and/or a building or structure that is developed through all design stages.

The final year project kicked off with a Field Trip and Workshop in Berlin where we also invited students from the Arts Department as part of an on-going collaboration that is aiming to explore the synergies between Art and Architecture. We also organized a symposium about Art and Architecture in March 2017 where high profile speakers from both disciplines took part.

This year’s work has been divided into 3 different elements:

One Week Workshop at ANCB Berlin / Germany / October 2017

Compendium of the Field Trip and Analysis of various Sites in Berlin
5th and 6th year MArch Students worked in groups on this research part of the task.
