PROFILE
Born in Lapu Lapu City, Philippines, and raised in the suburb of Pomona in Los Angeles, California USA, Lesley Ann began exploring her interests in design building tree houses and maintaining her parent's garden as a child. Adept with art and science in high school, she pursued her Bachelor's Degree in Architecture at the University of Southern California; and after a few years in practice, she moved to Scotland UK to receive her Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture at the Edinburgh College of Art.
In the last couple of years, she lived in Downtown Los Angeles, New York City, Edinburgh, traveled to the Philippines, Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, and around the UK in effort to understand the world, expand her visual vocabulary, and become a more socially-sensitive designer. She also has a keen interest in process-based environmentally friendly designs, particularly inspired by Dutch philosophies in energy efficiency, zero-waste, and "Biophilia". Her values continue to be reflected in her work as well as her lifestyle: preferring to live in pedestrian-friendly cities, using renewable energy where possible, limiting consumption of animal-based products, and seeking to collaborate on new projects with like-minded designers/artists to say the least.
As a dedicated young professional, she has interned and worked full-time in offices based in Los Angeles, New York, London, and Edinburgh. In Los Angeles, she has worked intensively with her team mates and former professor designing high-rise apartments and urban villages in China. In New York, she was an assistant project manager to a registered landscape architect, overseeing the construction of penthouse roof gardens for high-profile clients. In London, she helped research and develop a new theoretical method of urban curation known as "Urban Gallery" for Chora Architecture and Urbanism, while drafting architectural construction details in her freelance business called, "Malapit Design". Finally in Edinburgh, she worked as a Competitions Project Manager at GROSS.MAX. Landscape Architects, collaborating with architecture clients to design and graphically communicating concepts in competitions shorlisted with other well-known design firms like Zaha Hadid Architects, and ACME Architecture in London.
Today she remains determined to pursue her values, constantly working on new projects and fine-tuning old ones to expand her research and portfolio. More specifically she is building her own database on "high performance surfaces", cybernetics, and delving further into the work of Gordon Pask's Conversation Theory, and James Lovelock's Gaia Theory. One day she hopes this research can be applied to a PHD or another research degree; and in due time apply them to design-based projects which seek to improve the social and infrastructural challenges of unsustainable urban environments at micro and macro levels.
