My thesis will look at how nature, public space, and architecture come together in a public space that allows for cultural practices, connects neighborhoods, and provides green spaces for the Belmont community. This neighborhood is situated next to the Bronx Botanical Garden yet lacks both park spaces of its own or public nature that represents its people. Specifically, I want to cultivate plants seen and used within natural products and spiritual stores, known as “botanicas.” This thesis will revisit the relationship between nature and architecture in this neighborhood through the lens of the Botanica.
