The Florida Panhandle is one of the most hurricane stricken places. This is directly linked to loss of population and economic growth. Under conditions like this, we as designers must answer the challenge of resilience, efficiency, affordability, and resource. My interpretation of resilience involves the way a structure is put together and how they can come apart in a safe manner. I chose to examine efficiency in terms of number of layouts that can be made out of a single set of modulars to provide as little or as much square footage needed for both single family and multi-family demographics. I chose to examine affordability by comparing materiality, re-evaluating budget, and mixing structure techniques that would allow us to relocate money elsewhere. Thus providing an overall site development cost that is 50% less compared to other projects in the competition.
