This project is designing a housing cluster in Detroit, Michigan. The name of the project is the Dual front because the houses are almost hard to be found which side is the main entrance to space. The Entrances are on both sides and residents can use the entrance on the rain garden side.
We as a group decided to keep the Detroit city government development plan that is developing commercial streets along Kercheval Ave. So we designed big apartments over commercial units on the Kercheval side. Live/Work units are located on the Butzel park side to increase interaction between the workshop space on the first floor of Live/Work and the park visitors. Cottages are on the Townsend side to mimic the condition of the other side of the street, traditional American houses. To provide green to our residents, we designed the rain garden at the center of our site. The rain garden has not only green space but also a sitting area for residents to hold pop-up stores.
