THE NEWBURY BOSTON

The Newbury Boston is a luxury hotel and a beloved landmark in the city. Located in the premier shopping and dining neighborhood of Back Bay, and adjacent to The Public Garden, this iconic establishment originally opened in 1927 as one of the first Ritz-Carlton hotels in the United States. Leveraging the talent of three world-renowned designers, the building has been thoughtfully transformed into a 286-room hotel with 16,000-sq-ft of stunning event spaces, signature dining experiences and a reimagined front entrance on Newbury Street.

In designing the hotel’s new entrance and public spaces, internationally recognized architect Jeffrey Beers (founder of the interior architecture and design firm Jeffrey Beers International) sought to invoke the spirit of the building’s heritage by incorporating many historic details, including the original cobalt blue chandeliers from the Main Dining Room, into the meticulous redesign.

The hotel’s lobby and public space features a distinctive selection of artwork, bringing to life the hotel’s traditional place as a salon for the arts. Above the rosewood check-in desk, an elegant chandelier casts a warm, welcoming glow highlighting rich material elements throughout the space including the Nero Dorato marble floors. Just off the lobby is a private library lounge with reserved seating for guests of the hotel, complete with a fireplace rediscovered in the renovation, and a curated library - a nod to the city’s intellectual achievement in science and the humanities. Flexible seating arrangements comprised of oversized lounge chairs and sofas in an assortment of jewel-tone leathers and velvets, accompanied by dark wood tables meant to compliment the oak flooring, encourage informal socializing. A palatial grand staircase leads to the hotel’s second floor level, which houses sumptuous event space. Historical architectural elements, including existing marble columns and an original banister, flank the majestic steps. A massive chrome chandelier, with custom glass lighting enclosures blown by
Jeffrey Beers himself, acts as a striking modern addition to the classic stairwell.

Local residents and admirers of the property are pleased to welcome the return of this beloved watering hole located off the Arlington Street entrance and overlooking the Public Garden. The Street Bar offers creative cocktails and cuisine by Major Food Group, complemented by a cozy fireplace. The Street Bar transports
guests back to the 1920s with classic leather barstools and dark wood accents, while also projecting a modern speakeasy vibe with an adjacent library lounge area that provides additional seating exclusively for hotel guests.

The Newbury Boston offers 16,000-square-feet of meeting and event space suitable for gatherings ranging from intimate private dining, to grand weddings and lavish celebrations. Multiple event spaces with connecting pre-function rooms make up the hotel’s expansive second floor. The Assembly Room, the hotel’s largest space, extends 3,835 square-feet with the capacity to accompany up to 400 guests. Lush green curtains and ornate carpet design mimic the flora of The Public
Garden, while the silver leaf ceilings are an opulent homage to the building’s extravagant galas of the past.
