Phillips prepared designs and renderings for a mixed-use, schematic landscape design in Chongming, China.  The landscape concept is inspired by the rich and unique character of the island. The island is transitory with an ever changing edge between water and land. An edge that is represented in the intersecting elements of plant and stone, stone and water, water and wood. The low flat landscape
of the island provides unique vistas with pathways and boardwalks that meander through tall grasses. Paving patterns represent the linear and geometric forms of the agricultural fields of the island and plant materials intersect these geometric forms with curvilinear patterns reflecting the intersection of man and nature.
