21st Century Green School with Solar Chimneys, Sunscreens, and Roof Monitors to provide healthy learning environment. Outdoor education takes the form of outdoor classroom, rooftop curriculum garden, and natural playgrounds. 

Powell Elementary was showcased in the ISTUDIO exhibit at the 2021 Venice Biennale. Awards include Architizer A+ Architecture and Sustainability, Global Future Design, Rethinking the Future, AIA DC, AIA Maryland, AIA Virginia, and NAIOP Best Institutional Facility.
