Gilt is a cosmopolitan restaurant and bar located in Saifi Village, Beirut. “The exercise revolved around the introduction of a new architectural form that seamlessly communicates with the spatial axes, follows them, identifies with them, and reinvents the positive and negative forms originally generated by the vaulted space”, according to architect Issam Barhouch. A three-dimensional fragmented triangular plane simultaneously delineates the diverse functions of the spaces, music, bar, and lounge area. The custom lighting solution conceived by PSLAB highlights the restaurant’s impressive architectural features and delineates its functional areas.
An imposing insertion, made up of twenty one perfectly aligned steel rods curved over a steel profile, hangs above the bar to add to the roughness of the concrete vaulted ceiling and the bar and the sharp edges of the wood panel that make up that section.
A chandelier-like fixture was created for the offsets that are formed by the space’s arcade structure – these custom fixtures, act as art pieces, emphasizing the offsets and bringing life to the space. The exuberance of the space, the cultural integration, and the comfort of functional experience all contributed to Gilt’s prompt success amongst the trendsetters of Beirut.
