The second installation of The Dirty South studio with Jennifer Bonner at Georgia Tech takes on New Orleans. Using the legacy of Dirty South hip hop as inspiration within the framework of a guidebook of B-side tours, students investigated unusual patterns and idiosyncrasies in the city. Projects spanned topics from misuse of Charles Moore's Piazza d'Italia to reappropriation of the city's most controversial monuments to installation of an illegal auction house within the convention center.
This integrated design studio will involve 11 M.Arch students working collaboratively to engage the current programme for the Hong Kong Performing Arts Academy and the Hong Kong Art Center, and research and design a major new initiative that serves as a counter-balance to the West Kowloon Cultural District institutions. There is an opportunity to diversify the geography of Hong Kong’s first tier arts venues while exploring questions of identity, civic presence, and architectural language.
The technique of drawing is a very distinct architectural element. As Architects, we draw lines for notions of aesthetic, concept, as well as production. Drawing is considered an extension of our thoughts (concept) and vessel to communicate our ideas (technique). Every drawing however has imbedded in it a signature, expression, and authenticity. What is the relationship between lines and our individual design ideologies?
