With over 25 years of diverse experience in the construction field, Mr. Matta has worked as a registered architect, a construction attorney and an expert consultant throughout his career. He currently co-manages the CASE Division at Helman Hurley Charvat Peacock / Architects.
Prior to joining HHCP, he worked as a managing consultant in the global construction practice of a multinational consulting firm, specializing in standard of care, construction defects, and schedule/delay analysis for large-scale construction projects throughout the US, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Before this, Mr. Matta worked for several years as a licensed attorney at a San Juan law firm managing cases related to breach of construction contract, differing site conditions, and surety claims, among others. He also drafted and negotiated contracts involving contractors, sureties, owners, operators and designers, for both public and private projects.
However, Mr. Matta is first and foremost an architect. For more than 20 years, he has practiced as a registered architect in NY, PR, AZ and FL, directing all aspects of the design and construction administration process for a multitude of projects throughout the Northeastern U.S. and the Caribbean. His experience includes institutional buildings, courthouses, educational facilities, commercial establishments, warehouses, residential developments and individual homes.
Mr. Matta has served as expert witness and consultant for construction disputes in state and federal courts, arbitration panels, and mediation forums in the U.S. and Latin America, rendering written opinions and providing testimony in English and Spanish for issues related to wrongful termination, permits, code & ADA compliance, standard of care, building envelope, and construction related torts. He has lectured in areas such as government contracting and differing site conditions.
Mr. Matta is a licensed attorney, as well as a registered architect in multiple states. He has also been certified as Court Mediator and a LEED Green Associate.
