This project promotes the bonding of two generations despite their large age difference: seniors and children. The program of this structure is a food program which is a tool utilized to accommodate both generations. Both generations share a generous love for ice cream, and with this location marked as a daily stop for the best local ice cream truck, the two seemingly disparate generations can bond over a sweet commonality. The truck drives through the structure and out to the alley to serve the people. As the truck drives through the structure, it plays its famous ice cream truck tune, which is reflected and projected by the inner walls that surround the structure for all the users to hear. The project also features two fish galleries, as well as slides from the upper floors for the children to be free and energetic.
Ice cream is not only popular among the two generations, but it can also offer a unique moment for them both. Seniors may sometimes feel dispirited or depressed due to a lack of physical agility, health issues, and even mental issues. Being able to see children excited and energetic about getting ice cream can bring them joy and even nostalgia for the days when they may have shared the same excitement and energy. As the nostalgia moment happens the seniors have an opportunity to share those memories and lessons with the children, offering wisdom which is one of the most valuable things a person can have and give. This project also has the ability to expand beyond its site. The fabric wrapping the structure stabilizes and directs the sound to the speaker-like openings which makes it loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear. As the truck announces its presence, this site can transform into a community area where its members can bond, interact, share memories, and share wisdom over the great uniter, food.
