About 

Erik is a conceptual thinker and designer involved in each phase of the architectural process. Always beginning with the client expectation and vision, he applies his knowledge, research, planning, and concept narrative to every project.

Erik has worked in many areas of architecture and construction, focusing on residential, cultural and commercial projects, including numerous landmarked sites. Sourcing his passion for historic preservation and adaptive re-use, he strives for balance in the built environment.

Motivated by purpose-driven quality design, Erik is inspired to create sustainable, multi-layered environments that are grounded in historical context. He believes that having the willingness to learn from the past is essential in how we approach the future of the built environment.

ELWD’s mission is to provide environmentally impactful and sustainably aware designs to a shifting metropolis that is being shaped by the climate crisis. A multidisciplinary architectural design and consulting firm, ELWD collaborates with clients across multiple industries in the New York City area. Each project goal has not only been to create and enhance the built environment, but also, to deliver and strategize the client’s needs throughout the entire conceptual design and construction process. Current work includes residential, branded commercial, and experiential hospitality environments.

Vocon, New York, NY, US, LANDMARKS SPECIALIST + PROJECT ARCHITECT

Initially brought on to lead the technical and architectural coordination at 300 Madison Avenue, once integrated into the design team, he worked to develop lobby reposition strategies that enrich guest experiences. Corporate portfolio includes: PricewaterhouseCoopers, CBRE, Convene, WeWork, Flatiron Health and numerous smaller outfits such as Bandier and Galaxy Investments. Responsibilities include project management, design direction, technical detailing, and construction administration of new architecture projects. Preservation work includes interior and exterior design, LPC staff coordination for historic districts, zoning analysis for additions, and renovation of the Limelight church.

A Preservation Studio DCP, New York, NY, US, PRESERVATION ARCHITECT

Preservation and exterior envelope survey for Mt. Sinai Medical Complex in NYC within the regulatory framework of the NYC FISP program. Surveyed and provided critical examination reports to identify defects and develop effective repair solutions. Project delivery, preparation of construction documents, master specification catalogue, and cost estimates to construction administration services.

NELSON, Minneapolis, MN, US + New York, NY, DESIGNER III + PROJECT ARCHITECT

Developed of the corporate office environment and helped companies create a more dynamic and inclusive space. Intensive research and planning on the activity-based workplace for industry giants such as Verizon, Google, and Bank of America. Project designer, project manager, and liaison for the schematic thru design delivery and construction of the Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center. This project was a 47,000 square foot addition to a Dutch colonial farmhouse, involving the new construction of a 420-seat theater, an interactive museum, lodge room, and welcome center. With the New York team, he designed, and project managed the renovation of landmarked St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, and updated interior design of the Upper West Side Jewish Center.

Meshberg Group, Brooklyn, NY, US, DESIGN DIRECTOR + PROJECT MANAGER

Specialized in adaptive re-use and new sustainable building designs. Led the firm’s design direction and assisted in the construction management process involving: client servicing, interior and exterior layouts and designs, master spec selections for all categories, construction administration, branding, marketing, and real estate analysis. Tasks were completed in all phases of both new construction and renovation projects. Developed designs aimed at achieving sustainability and LEED certification. Presented design proposals to the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission and local community boards. Created and submitted construction documents to the Department of Buildings.

Worked on all phases of project development, including existing conditions, site analysis, schematic design, finalizing stages of construction documents and construction administration. Projects ranged from historic preservation of buildings on the National Register, adaptive re-use of numerous building types, renovations and new construction including residential, religious and institutional designs.
