The project develops from the idea of Copenhagen as proud of their cultural roots town. A city to behold as a pedestrian, valuing the sustainable development and strong Nordic culture. The proposal comes as a cultural dialogue that connects points of importance in the environment with the new library.
The whole idea is developed to the extent that the resident or tourist exploring the city and rediscover the cultural elements such as the Opera House, which along with the New Library, symbolic and artistic form, a cultural bridge, reinforcing the national artistic and cultural production.
Our proposal favored the essential: the integration of the existing nature of equity value, with new pathways activated by novel uses and experiences and technologies in the New Library, the prudent management of the spaces created.
The design is characterized by a volumetric inversion of Opera House:
• Opera House= Mass built under blade.
• New Library = Blade built under mass
Thus is generated a social coexistence blade passing and contemplation on the volume library.
The space walk is open, spacious, with generous and unusual, suggestive passages to the discovery.
Under the shade and protection of the New Library, happen wheels conversations, friendships or simply admire.
The intervention is conceived as a whole, sharing services and thereby enabling a more rational use of the entire complex. Reading rooms and multimedia interconnect, moving to generate pairs of working and intelligent circuits.
Think of the Library as an experience, as an interactive space where the act itself is to traverse the experience of exploring the place as well as the hanging garden. However, the New Library also characterizes itself as a great vantage point and this act to go, is the materialization of the complexity that surrounds us. This experience reinforces the awareness that the environment is not only associated with our surroundings, as is the environment itself and the interaction with it that defines us.
A careful consideration of the place where it will be inserted, understood in its full significance as environmental and cultural heritage.
- The adoption of architectural principles that generate the maximum flexibility of the new spaces, increasing their possibilities of use in the present and extending its useful life in the future;
- The option to mark the importance of affirmatively New Library through a contemporary visual language, inserting itself dialectically in context, architectural and pre-existing landscape, besides constituting a symbolic and unambiguous framework of a new urban phase of the city of Copenhagen .
- The choice of structural and industrialized building systems for their ability to reduce the immediate environmental impacts with lasting benefits.
