The Glean Gyre Facility (Thesis Project)

The primary purpose of this thesis was to find an efficient and successful way of removing plastic and garbage from the ocean gyres, while being sensitive to the wide variety of ecosystems.

A secondary goal was to take this plastic waste and consider how it could be
reprocessed and used for the project growth. Collecting the plastic is a difficult task due
to the sheer scale of the area effected and the amount of tiny particulates located in the
gyres. Through analyzing and understanding the ocean currents, there is a passive
approach to collecting the plastic. In a sense the ocean will filter itself from our waste.

the architecture comes from the form of the structure, and having it derived from the
function of the facility as well as addressing the people interacting within the facility. this
project is large in scale and would require much more collaboration and refinement. I see
this as something that is feasible within a not too distant future.
