Adaptive Reuse 

The expansion of Academe of the Oaks, a Waldorf School, was an adaptive reuse of two existing metal frame industrial buildings adjacent to the school's current location. 

The two existing buildings were converted to two large classrooms and art room which opens up to a new outdoor space sheltered by a new canopy. 

Glulam beams and purlins allow for long spans and over 1,000 sf of covered area. Thin V-shaped columns provide sheer strength and support for the GLB members while maximizing usable space below the structure. The clear corrugated polycarbonate roof maximizes indirect natural light used by the art room. Rainwater harvesting is captured in a 500-gallon stainless steel cistern and is used by the students for art projects and herb gardens.
