Parque Urbano das Marinhas (Marine Urban Park) - Characterised as an area on the edge of the city, the intervention site, which is vacant and invaded by nature, was once a place of great importance because it was home to the Aveiro fish auction.

It was with this importance in mind that the proposal sought to make it not only a place of arrival in the city, but also a place of departure for the more adventurous who venture out into the sea in search of physical activity or simply peace of mind and contact with nature.

Underpinned by the assumptions of the ‘New European Bauhaus’ and the concept of ‘Smart Cities’, the proposal includes a set of multi-family housing buildings, which act as a transition between the city and the new space, a multi-purpose urban park capable of hosting cultural events, and at the same time separating the housing area from the other facilities, the restoration of the old fish auction building as a commercial and services space, a hotel, a marina for pleasure boats, pavilions to support associations dedicated to nautical and cultural sports activities and a building that will house spaces for interpreting the landscape, heritage, co-creation environments and educational services, called the Living Spaces Lab.

This is an intervention that is part of a whole, it will bring a new and good dynamic to the city, provide an improvement in the quality of life for Aveirenses and visitors at the same time as being an honest way of honouring the city and its memory.

Over the years the city has grown spontaneously and conditioned by the watercourses, which belong to a complex lagoon system in the Baixo Vouga region, and the intervention site stands out for being one of the rare points where the morphology of the city's organic fabric directly confronts the rigid, orthogonal fabric of the salt marshes.

A combination of organic and orthogonal layouts was proposed with the different intelligent pedestrian and cycle routes, giving the user the option of choosing between more pleasant or more immediate routes, with a uniform layout filled with different elements, from empty spaces that provide the site with spaciousness, to spaces filled with gardens, flowerbeds, shrubs and water mirrors.
