Responsibilities included mentoring architecture students on their design projects, leading group and one-on-one tutorials and workshops for 2D and 3D software, and assisting with creative drawings and model making. I worked extensively with graphite and charcoal for drawing, and experimented with pastels, watercolor, and oil paints for my paintings. Additionally, I deepened my understanding of art's cultural and historical contexts through numerous art history courses, many of which closely aligned with the history of architecture, further enriching my perspective as an artist and architect.
The Africatown International Design Idea Competition Winners, 1st Place
The Africatown International Design Idea Competition brought together a distinguished group of Black architects, historians, archaeologists, and activists to convey Africatown’s rich history through architecture, storytelling, and community building. Our team at JEROME HAFERD (BRANDT : HAFERD) was honored to win First Place with a museum proposal that not only honors the Clotilda but also redefines how architects engage with descendant communities in Mobile, Alabama.
