The Tolland Public Library was expanded to accommodate the growth and changing uses for a 21st century library. This was achieved by renovating an adjacent gym that was part of the Town Hall/Library complex. The gym provided the opportunity to add a second level over a portion of the floor. The wall between the library and gym was opened up and rooms were removed for better flow and visibility. Interior spaces were reorganized to achieve a distinct separation between the Adults, Young Adults, and Children.
The newly renovated library features an 85-seat program room, a mezzanine level and expanded office and business function space. There is also a children’s story room and an adult reading room. A great deal of attention focused on technological upgrades, including an RFID system. The program room was moved to the front of the building to allow for afterhours use by the community. Windows were added throughout the existing library to provide an abundance of natural light.
