Adding to Boston’s rich variety of architecture is a minimal concrete mass extruding from the ground off the Boston Harbor in the East Boston Neighborhood. The design keeps the integrity of the program and its functions within their own separate boxes. There are two major wings that make up the building with a joint between the two, creating a collision of program and mass. By keeping low ceilings and longer spans, the feeling of compression and release is brought to key moments within the museum and event center. This capstone project with partner Denon Hubbard incorporated holistic and MEP systems into the design process and deliverables.
