Houston, TX
A new campus center and dining hall were completed for the St. John's School, an independent college preparatory school in Houston. Housing a dining hall, classrooms, kitchen facilities, administrative offices, and underground parking, Flores Hall complements the existing eclectic blend of Cotswold massing and Collegiate Gothic limestone campus. Eliminating a sea of surface parking and inserting this new building tied a collection of diversely-scaled buildings into a tightly woven campus.
The 10,000 square feet of dining hall is divided among a large ceremonial space and a side gallery that is more intimate in scale. The interior invites natural light with clerestory window openings in plaster walls, accented with cut limestone and oak-paneling.
