L’Atelier acts as a space for a designer in fashion to produce, showcase, and sell their work to the public. The project also contains a residential component, with a space designed for living in the two-story back portion of the renovated building. The driving factor of the design is the red lacquer staircase leading from the reception area up to the second-floor studio, which informed the initial space planning of the project. Inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s use of grand staircases for fashion shows, the staircase doubles as a runway to showcase the work of the designer to the individuals inside and to the cars passing by.
