I am currently the head of Model Architecture, Inc., a small, independent company I began in 2007.  As the sole generator of projects for this firm, I have undertaken both large and small residential and commercial ventures that are highlighted in the attached portfolio. I am proud of the fact that I have taken these projects from concept through close-out, handling every detail along the way. Since I am constantly managing three to five major projects and several minor projects at a time, I have become quite skilled at time management, flexibility, and balance, but the highlight of my process is working with clients who get to witness their dream come true—regardless of the size of the project.

In the initial stage, I am often translating a conversation into practical architectural applications. For example, a recent client bid on and purchased a house from an auction. The house was sold in “as is” condition, and, as can be expected, circumstances beneath the façade became apparent after purchase. From the original hope for a 6-month move-in, this client was guided toward a slower but more careful approach, such that her home is now state-of-the-art. Her original time/budget schedule of two years/$250,000 expanded to five years/$350,000. My job included helping her see she could complete the project on time and within budget by making cuts or she could head toward the ideal by adding both time and money. We arrived at a reasonable and agreeable compromise through adept communication. The difference in cost was nominal over the additional three years, and the difference in long-term value has been enormous.

As the owner of Model Architecture, Inc., I have been primarily responsible for project management, always coordinating clients with professional builders, tradespeople, and local county inspectors, engineers, and technicians. This is essential in bringing a project to completion in a timely manner, especially in a small county like Licking. Building codes vary from state to state and individual villages have specific ordinances. An architectural technician must be capable of reading and interpreting these as well as applying them appropriately to each project. As the owner and operator of my own business, I am the one who has to stay informed and up-to-date or my clients would suffer. The people down at Licking County Building Code Department know me by my first name.

As my website demonstrates, I have also structured my business to allow clients to approach me with ideas, giving them hand-drawn sketches and then computer-generated documents so that they can negotiate the scope of their projects. From these documents, they are able to feel comfortable committing to a second and third step: that of design development and rendering and delineation. These details yield reliable numbers for pricing. I thoroughly enjoy adding sufficiently to the artwork so that the client can see his or her own furniture and paintings in the images, allowing the project to lift itself off the page or screen and into the building stage.

My credentials exceed the 4-year degree in architecture; I earned a BArch from the New School of Architecture and Design in San Diego, CA, in their 5-year professional degree program. My work experience also slightly exceeds your expectations. It includes two years of internship at Earl Walls Associates (San Diego, CA), three years at J. L. Bender (Upper Arlington, OH) and one year at HRJL in Newark, OH.  Since 2007, I have been the owner of Model Architecture, Inc.  My project experience in these locations include mostly residential design and small commercial projects.
