The KKE (Kultur & Kongresszentrum Entlebuch) is a multifunctional congress center designed by Zurich based Architects Andrés Carosio and Curzio Ardinghi.
Located in Entlebuch, the first biosphere reserve in Switzerland, the project inevitably has a strong relationshipwith the surrounding natural environment.
KKE’s objective is, not only, to promote culture with concerts and seminars but also to enhance the biodiversity of the UNESCO area and find a new bond between existing industrial area and nature.
The project will revitalize the area by attracting many people thanks to various activities inside the whole building. This is why the KKE has an iconic shape, acting like a landmark. It is a sign visible from far away, integrated with the landscape.
The architect’s idea is to bring the biosphere landscape on the rooftop of the existing industrial warehouse. Therefore the green hills and the trees are inspiration for the wavy green roof. Local wood is also used for the structure and the interiors.
In order to reduce the ecological impact the new construction uses a geothermal heating system and the canopy is also an ecological machine capable of collecting rainwater to reuse it in the building and of producing electricity through solar panels and wind turbines.
