I am Azadeh Eskandari and I just graduated with a Masters of Architecture at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in May 2015 I have a bachelors in Architecture science from Iran, and I worked in Malaysia for four years. I moved to the US in 2012 and become a permanent resident here in US.
I always thought of architecture as a way of helping people and society. My problem with some of the current designs is that the buildings, for instance, are designed as an end in themselves or such a sculpture to just be impressive and by that I mean not enough respect to the earth, their context, culture and their time. One of the things I always strive to learn about is humans and humanity. As S.Giedion says, “Before an architect can design any plans he must learn the ways of living and culture in which he must work,” but I have come to realize that there is more depth to it than this. Architecture can vastly affect the culture and quality of life in any society, simultaneously I believe in building with earth and learning from vernacular cultural designs and architecture.
I have a holistic approach to design, and I am guided by the aspirations of the client. They make each project unique and I find this approach to be rewarding. My other passion is traveling and I have traveled around Southeast Asia, and Iran, became familiar with their culture, land, lifestyle, and how it affects their regional architecture. In addition I enjoy landscaping and gardening.
