Wynand Wilsenach Architects, Cape Town, ZA, Senior Architectural Technologist
WWA is mainly focussed on high-end residential projects with very detailed designs. I work alongside different architects during all stages of the documentation and building process. This exposure means that I am able to work out complicated details and solve design issues in a way that keeps to the aesthetic of the home.

Architects Ink, Windhoek, NA, Draughtsperson
At Architects Ink I worked on a variety of residential and commercial projects which included houses on estates outside Windhoek, a mixed use multi storey building and various warehouses. We used a combination of Caddie and ArchiCAD for our drawings. The 3D/2D combination is useful to better understand a building.
▪ Assisting with the design and drawing of sketch plans, council submissions and construction drawings.
▪ Meeting and liaising with clients and attending site meetings and inspections.
Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town, ZA, Bachelors, Baccalaureus Technologiae: Architectural Technology
The BTech degree had a larger emphasis on architectural design and detailing. We had to design bigger structures with more detail that also complied with basic building standards. Our designs had to work realistically but also had to be sensitive to the surrounding context.
Studying my BTech helped further develop my design skills as well as make them tangible. It also opened up my eyes to urban complexities and the relationship of architecture to with the urban environment.
Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town, ZA, National Diploma: Architectural Technology
A Diploma in Architectural Technology taught me the basics of architectural drawing and design, as well as landscape design. The course was structured to introduce basic drawing conventions through hand drawings and later on with CAD drawings. It gave me the ability to create conceptual and construction drawings for various contexts. We were not only taught about drawing and design, but also the complex building services and theory that goes into creating functioning architecture. Our theory centred on the science of sustainable architecture, different building materials and methods, and the history of architecture.
Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town, ZA, National Diploma: Three-Dimensional Design
Three-Dimensional design was a well-rounded diploma that taught me design, basic graphic design, design and technological theory, the history of design, technical skills and basic business management skills. It developed our academic theory skills through literature reviews, research proposals, and essays on design. It developed our design skills through intense drawing subjects. What we drew by hand we had to translate into CAD drawings and then physical models or small prototypes. For our designs we often had to design logos, display graphics or magazine spreads.
Some of the items I designed included - but weren’t limited – an electrical kettle, various furniture pieces, an audio device, gas heater, ceramic wine accessories and a fog collector.
