Living Construction : Thesis Research 2020

An ecologically prototypical insertion forming the structural core which constantly grows and encourages changing environments within the structure, and at the same time holds the potential to substitute constructions of the future.

Construction wastes continue to be a hazardous threat to our environment. Looking back at 2017, 569 tons of construction and demolition waste was produced by the United States alone.

Mycelium is grown out of mushroom roots acting as a natural binding agent, it is 100% biodegradable and can be easily molded into any desired shape or form.

An unconventional approach moving away from the generic living wall, the mycelium core softens the boundary between the “natural” and the “constructed”, forming the structural core and exaggerating the spacial experience as one moves through the house.

The ‘natural’ living wall is to be regenerated under ‘man-made’ microclimatic conditions. It also reveals itself externally intriguing and generating curiosity about “what's within?”
