Bio:
Emily hails from Cincinnati where she graduated with a six-year Bachelor of Architecture degree in 2002 from the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. Through the college's cooperative education system, Emily had the opportunity to work in architecture firms in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and New York City, as well as study design in Europe for three months. Upon graduation, she took a job with a Cincinnati firm as a Project Manager to explore the urban fabric of this Midwestern "metropolis," and to participate in the city's budding architectural community. Emily became passionate about sustainable design through independent research and workshops; she began to learn strategies for sustainability in her professional capacity, but soon realized the limits of her efforts. This led her to the Master of Building Science program in the USC School of Architecture, where she is focusing her research on carbon neutral architecture and urbanism. Emily is the President of USC’s Graduate Architecture Student Association (GASA), the Graduate Student Representative to the AIA-LA’s Board of Directors, and a member of the USC Stevens Institute for Innovation Student Advisory Board. She is also an avid biker, amateur photographer, and blogger. She has embraced Southern California's vibrant architecture and environmentalist communities, and was recently named the winner in the $10,000 Saul Goldin Memorial Lighting Design Competition. Emily hopes to one day teach environmentally responsive design strategies to college students while practicing her own brand of unique and innovative architecture.
